Steve Thompson Wildlife Drive Morning Tour - Wednesday, February 5th

This special and unique guided tour takes you through some of the most beautiful landscapes Lower South Texas has to offer. A hidden treasure due to its locality and vehicle restrictions, the Steve Thompson Wildlife Drive of the Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge will take you along the shores of the Laguna Madre, coastal prairie, unique coastal Lomas, and along freshwater wetlands filled with wintering waterfowl and resident wildlife. The diversity of habitats the tour will go through creates a perfect opportunity for the enthusiastic birder and nature photographer where one might see incredible wildlife like; Nilgai, White-tailed Deer, Javelinas, and of course Rio Grande Valley specialty birds like; Green Jays, Great Kiskadee, Altamira Oriole, Crested Caracara, White-Tailed Hawks and the special to the refuge, Aplomado Falcons just to name a few. Bringing your own lunch or snacks is encouraged. This tour is made possible in partnership with SPI Surf Shuttle

The tour will make stops along the tour road to allow the opportunity to get off the van and observe wildlife. 

There is a restroom along the tour road that we will be stopping at twice. The tour can also stop at public restrooms along the way if need be. 

Tour will go out rain or shine.

Binoculars will be available to borrow during this tour. 

Tour leaves from and returns to the South Padre Island Birding & Nature Center.
